A recent trend in cars has been alternative energy, but little has been done to improve the comfort of drivers. The eco-friendly vehicles are healthy to the environment, but Nissan has taken the stance that a car should add to the health of the driver. Its several design innovations seek to make such changes in its cars to assert the notion that driving is healthy. In conjunction with Sharp Technologies it has created an air-conditioner that pumps breathable vitamin C into the car. Vitamin C has been known to strengthen the immune system against viruses as well as moisturize the skin. The heated seats incorporate designs researched and developed by NASA’s scientists, and will maximize blood circulation and “reduce the chances of back pain during long drives.”

A new sensor technology system will also be introduced that automatically decelerates the car when it senses an oncoming car in your line. This anti-collision technology further acts to preserve the health of drivers. As the engineering aspects of cars are being optimized by various car manufacturers, competitive advantage may shift to other factors. Nissan engineer Kenichi Tanatka says, “The emotional aspect of a car has become increasingly important.” How important are a cars ancillary design innovations such as vitamin infused AC, and properly configured heated seats?
