School officials at Capitol Hill Elementary school have revolutionized its lunch program. The food currently being served at the school is typical school food –prepackaged, reheated, containing additives and preservatives. As part of a social innovation program, master chef Cathal Armstrong has organized a group of chefs to volunteer. 20 parents have also volunteered to help out serve the food and help out where they can. The food being used will be cooked from scratch and served on real plates with real cutlery. The school kitchen will be renovated to include an additional stove, dishwasher, and sinks.

In addition to healthier food, students will receive health education. They will be taught tools to use in gardening and in the kitchen. They will learn to stay away from chemical foods and give them the confidence to cook their own food. The parent volunteers are further showing the students that they take healthy eating seriously. The chefs will cook delicious meals and get students on the path to eating smart for the rest of their lives. How can the school raise money to finance a healthy lunch program for years to come?
